This was a racking fit-out of one of the largest supermarket chains in Europe with their biggest Distribution centre in the world. 27500 one-and-a-half tonne pallets in racking over 13m high. Ever growing their number of stores, the requirement was to store 27500 pallets in conventional static pallet racking and was successfully achieved on time and within budget. The racking consisted of several chambers storing differing products in each chamber, ambient, chocolate box, chiller and freezer along with a significant non food area along with a cage for flammable items.
All racking was fitted with heavy duty column guards and end protectors core drilled into the concrete floor, and rack mounted guards to protect from the everyday threat of damage from order pickers and reach trucks. Additional accessories included single and double entry backstops preventing push through of pallets and mesh decking on the upper levels and drive through bays providing additional safety.
A cage was constructed for the containment of flammable goods. The racking is completely contained within 25 x 25mm mesh from floor to ceiling with fire system interlocked roller shutter doors that close when the fire system is activated. There are additional separate pedestrian fire exit doors for easy exit in case of a fire. Baffles are placed on each level to reduce the spread of a fire.
