At just 20 years old, Sam Buckton has reached a significant milestone in his career by becoming a SEMA Approved Racking Inspector (SARI). As one of the youngest to achieve this highly regarded certification, Sam’s journey reflects his dedication to personal growth, determination, and the strong support system provided by SDE Group!

A Family-Run Legacy

SDE Group is a family-run business with a proud history of fostering talent and providing exceptional service in the racking and storage industry. For Sam, becoming SEMA Approved is more than just a career milestone - it’s a step toward continuing the family legacy. With the guidance of his father, Ian Buckton, and the mentorship of others within the company, Sam is following in their footsteps to play a key role in the company’s future success.

A Journey Starting with Hard Work

Sam’s journey began in June 2020 when he joined the SDE Group installation team while balancing college commitments. After completing his studies in July 2023, he took on a full-time role as a trainee racking inspector. From the start, Sam demonstrated a proactive attitude, sitting down with Paul Jackson, one of SDE Group’s SEMA Approved Racking Inspectors, and Ian Buckton, Group Director at SDE, to map out his career path. Together, they decided on pursuing the SARI certification, a challenging but rewarding route for professional development.

Over the next 1.5 years, Sam dedicated himself to gaining invaluable experience by shadowing current SDE Group SARIs, including Josh Bennett and Paul Jackson. This hands-on learning, coupled with SDE’s commitment to investing in staff development, supported his path to success.

What Is a SEMA Approved Racking Inspector?

A SEMA Approved Racking Inspector is trained and certified to carry out detailed inspections of warehouse racking systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and safeguarding workplace safety. Inspections are vital for identifying potential hazards such as overloading, damaged components, or misaligned racking, which could lead to accidents or costly operational disruptions.

By achieving SARI status, Sam is able to perform inspections to the highest standards, providing SDE Group’s clients with peace of mind that their racking systems are safe, efficient, and compliant.

A Test of Determination

Achieving SARI certification is no easy feat, requiring both theoretical knowledge and practical expertise. Sam passed the theory test on his first attempt, but the practical test posed a greater challenge. Determined to succeed, he retook the practical and passed, demonstrating his commitment to becoming an expert in his field.

“I believe being SEMA approved is crucial in my role because it ensures the inspections I conduct are thorough and held to the highest industry standards,” Sam shares.

A Supportive Environment at SDE Group

One of the key factors in Sam’s success has been the strong support system at SDE Group. The company places a high priority on staff development, offering additional training and mentoring to help employees excel in their roles. By investing in its people, SDE ensures its team is equipped to meet the highest standards and adapt to the evolving needs of the industry.

Looking to the Future

As Sam continues his career as a SEMA Approved Racking Inspector, he’s eager to keep learning and contribute to the growth of SDE Group’s inspection services. His determination and early achievement set the stage for an exciting career, with plenty of opportunities to expand his expertise and make a lasting impact in the industry.
