The Vertu Toyota Chesterfield project involved a full electrical fit-out as part of the dealership’s wider refurbishment programme.

The works modernised the service reception, customer areas, workshop, and administrative spaces to align with Toyota’s corporate standards, while improving reliability, safety, and energy efficiency across the building.

Our Role

SDE Design Engineering Ltd was engaged to develop the Stage 3 electrical design into a detailed Stage 4 & 5 design package to support the electrical contractor during construction and installation.
Our remit focused on delivering coordinated, compliant, and buildable electrical designs tailored to the specific operational needs of the site.

Scope of Design Services

We produced a complete suite of electrical design documentation, including:

  • Full drawing set: power distribution, back-office lighting, small power, data, and containment layouts.
  • Lighting design: energy-efficient LED lighting for offices, back-of-house, and administrative areas, complete with lighting control and emergency coverage.
  • Workshop and service area power design: fixed equipment, tool supplies, and local distribution board upgrades.
  • Cable calculations and protection studies: ensuring correct sizing, voltage drop, fault level, and discrimination compliance.
  • Single Line Diagrams (SLDs) and schematics: illustrating new and existing system interfaces, distribution boards, and submains.
  • Selectivity and load assessments: verifying protection coordination and system resilience.
  • Construction support: responding to contractor queries, producing as-installed updates, and providing on-site design clarification.

Key Outcomes

  • Delivered a fully coordinated Stage 4/5 electrical design package for efficient site delivery.
  • Improved electrical distribution resilience and reliability throughout the dealership.
  • Provided compliant, energy-efficient back-office lighting solutions.
  • Enabled smooth coordination and installation through clear, detailed documentation.
  •

Design Challenges & Solutions

  • Maintaining operations during fit-out: The dealership remained partially live, requiring phased installation and detailed planning of isolations.
  • Integration with architectural layouts: Electrical containment and lighting positions were coordinated with new ceilings, partitions, and finishes to maintain the interior aesthetic.
  • Upgrading existing systems: The design incorporated existing supplies where possible while ensuring full compliance with BS 7671 and manufacturer requirements.
  •

Sustainability & Legacy

The electrical design supports Vertu Toyota’s commitment to efficient, modern dealership environments.  Upgraded LED lighting, improved circuit design, and rationalised distribution boards contribute to reduced energy consumption, lower maintenance, and a robust infrastructure suitable for future operational needs.
