SDE Group was appointed to deliver a comprehensive refurbishment of a former car dealership and workshop in Northwich, transforming it into a cutting-edge training facility and headquarters for the Fire Industry Association (FIA).
Fit-Out & Refurbishment Works
Our fit-out works began with a full strip-out of all existing dealership-related fixtures and fittings. A major architectural enhancement included the installation of a new glazed curtain wall system to the front elevation, improving both natural light and external aesthetics. The building’s external cladding was re-sprayed to align with FIA’s brand standards, giving the facility a bold, modern identity.
Internally, we constructed three new classrooms and a state-of-the-art conference centre, which features a sliding acoustic wall to enable flexible space usage. The resulting layout offers a professional, engaging environment suitable for training and collaboration.
Renewable Energy Installation
As part of FIA’s commitment to sustainability, SDE Energy Solutions supplied and installed a new photovoltaic (PV) solar system onto the existing roof structure. The system provides a renewable energy source for the facility, helping to offset operational energy use and reduce long-term carbon footprint.
Electrical Design & Installation
SDE Electrical was entrusted with the full design, supply, and installation of the electrical services for the new FIA HQ, ensuring the facility met modern training standards, energy efficiency goals, and all regulatory requirements.
- Upgrade of distribution systems to support new services
- Fire alarm system upgrade to Category L1, including aspirating fire detection to BS 5839-1:2017
- Installation of energy-efficient LED lighting in all classrooms and offices
- Emergency lighting compliant with BS 5266
- Provision of small power outlets in all training and office areas
- Installation of a wireless AV and lecture system, including in the double-height atrium
- Installation of power supplies for the new PV system.
- Installation of structured data communication systems
- Supply and installation of two dual 22kW EV car chargers
- Full testing, commissioning, and certification of all systems
Prior to commencement on site, a detailed CAD-based design was submitted for client approval. Once approved, we established a clear programme of works in close collaboration with the client, allowing efficient site mobilisation and progress tracking.
Initial electrical works included a full strip-out of the legacy systems and the installation of high-level containment to allow coordination with other trades. Throughout the construction phase, SDE Electrical managed the integration of services with precision, ensuring smooth execution and minimal disruption.
