My Work Experience Journey - Izzy Bennett

Work experience

Hi I’m Izzy, I've joined SDE for a week of work experience. SDE group is a family run business and I am the youngest in the family. I spent a week here getting to know the running of SDE.

I am a year 10 student studying B-Tec dance, drama and Spanish. I am passionate about dance as I also continue this outside of school. I think that learning a new dance can be very exciting, and it gives me something to look forward to each week. I love the thrill of drama and performing in front of people and seeing their reactions. Learning a new language has been really helpful to me because, as a family, we visit Spain a handful of times a year, and this allows me to converse with the locals in their native language.

Outside of school, I continue my passion for dancing. I am proud to have completed three dance shows and five dance exams. I also love practicing makeup; I enjoy having the choice of many different styles to try. Additionally, I love spending quality time with my family and friends.

As my secondary school education is coming to an end, I have had to look into my options and what is available for further education and future job rolls, I am still very open to different career ideas but I have some options in mind already such as going to college and studying childcare, which will then allow me to work in a nursery.

I would like to gain some more creative/technical skills I would also like to develop my confidence, communication and teamwork skills.

I started my week off in a positive light, looking forward to what the week will bring. On Monday, I was welcomed by India, the Marketing Executive, who went through our tasks for the week. I was excited for the opportunity to be able to create some content for their online profile and support with the creation of their first internal newsletter.

In the week that I have been with SDE I have got up to many different tasks. The first thing that I got up to is, learning how to use a new software, Canva, which India went through, allowing me to create my own social media post to introduce myself to SDE.

I then sat with Charlotte, the 3D Interior Designer, to explore the different textures, paints and materials that I can use to create a material mood board, once I had picked my favorite samples, I then got to work creating my mood board in Canva. We then got some materials out and explored what they would look like when next to each other.

I then partnered with Grace to go and interview the different branches of SDE about anything they wanted to share with us we then worked with India to start designing and drafting the first SDE internal newsletter.

I think that my week has gone brilliant, I have loved being here at SDE and I have really enjoyed creating material mood boards to provoke ideas for further interior projects. It has also provided content for India to use on social media. I have learnt some transferrable skills during my time here, such as communication, which I can take with me into future jobs as I will have to know how to communicate with different people. I can also transfer teamwork into my school and dance life, as when creating a dance, everyone needs to have an input to make the dance suitable for everyone.
